A lasting legacy of Craigville's 150th Anniversary celebration will be the restoration of the nature trail north and west of the Tabernacle as a memorial for persons who have been part of the Craigville community over the years. Developed by Rev. Myron Fowell for Craigville's 100th anniversary in 1972, over the years this short trail has been enjoyed by hundreds of residents and retreat center guests. We have been given permission from the Conservation Commission to do this restoration work.
We are planning a work party for Wednesday June 22 (rain date is June 23). We'll gather at the Inn at 9:30 for an orientation, hit the trail by 10 and finish by 1 pm. The goal is to trim and generally clean up the nature trail to prepare it for walking use and for future installation of informational sign posts that will turn it into an environmental education and nature appreciation resource for all. We'll gain a lot of botanical and historical insights about the area.
Many people don't realize that in Craigville's early years this little pathway was the main entrance to the village from the west. See historical link
This is a great opportunity for teens and folks of all ages. Bring your gloves, clippers, rakes, insect repellent, and a smile!
Our leader for the day will be Heather Butler of UCCR's Wolf School, a California-based environmental education program for youth.
Please let Bill McKinney know by June 17 if you plan to participate
